Every Woman Should

// Know how to change a tire.

// Own a little black dress that makes her feel fabulous.

// Know how to live on her own, not with her parents or a with a partner but by herself.

// Have one go to meal she can make well.

// Keep her old friends but make new one's too, your childhood friends will always be your friends but as you get older life will take you down different paths. It never hurts to make new friends that can walk with you for a while along your life path.

// Find that one brand of jeans that makes her ass look killer every. single. time. she puts them on.

// Not let the fact she is a mother, wife, daughter, or WOMAN stop her from doing anything.

// Have a back up plan for your back up plan, the fairy tale you imagined is likely to take a wrong turn somewhere be prepared for it.

// Play, dance, or walk in the rain.

// Be able to choose without pressure or guilt whether marriage and children are for her or not.

// Know that you don’t have to have a partner to make your life full, complete, or happy.

// Learn that your heart and your head won’t always agree, find a healthy compromise between the two when you can.

// Make “me time”, it doesn’t matter what you do with it as long as you are enjoying yourself.

What would you add to this list?

  2. I never did live alone and I've often wished that I had for at least a little while. I suppose the next closest thing I can do now is just make sure I'm comfortable with being alone at home and in public. Those jeans sound amazing! I need to find me some.

  3. I can't change a tire. But I can do all the rest! To be fair, I don't, nor have I ever, had a car.

  4. I love your list! I've never changed a tire on my own, but I've 'helped' and I think I've watched it done enough times I could rock it out if I had to ;) I lived on my own for about a year before Jared and I got married and I loved it. I feel like I learned a lot of my independence that year and grew up a lot too. Still working on the jeans thing..... ;)

  5. I love this entire list!!!! I can't change a tire by myself but I can do everything else!!! And, I know how to put oil in my car so that should count for something, yes? I agree that we should all live on our own at some point. What brand of jeans is your favorite killer ass pair?

  6. I love this and agree 100%. i think it is so important to be independent, and do for yourself so that someone comes along you don't lose yourself but you just cherish what they bring more.

  7. Love the practical advice (change a tire -- not sure I could do this 100%) and stuff about your heart, emotions, etc. Definitely need to learn to compromise between what your heart and head are telling you. Totally agree that a woman should learn to be independent, both in terms of living on your own and living on your own income. Other things that might be helpful -- learn to stand up for yourself (so what if ppl call you the b-word), don't follow trends whether they be fashion or otherwise, and stop apologizing for everything.

  9. Great list! I think I do most of this but I think one of the most important ones that is on your list is the learning to be by yourself and self sufficient. You really never know when your life is going to turn upside down and you need to be prepared.

  10. Fantastic list! For "(p)lay, dance, or walk in the rain", I'd add kiss to that particular list. It's really one of the best kisses I've ever had! One more thing I'd add is to travel to an unforgettable destination and soak up the experience and culture.
