Sea La Vie - 9/11
Kelli Things - I'm off today, I have school volunteer orientation class, because school volunteering is hard shit. The bright side to all this is I am off all day and she is not!! I CANNOT wait to do all the stuff kid free. Library kid free, signing up Little K for swim kid free, lunch wherever I want kid free, you get the idea here. I keep trying to think of ways to make school last just a little bit longer tomorrow.
Kid Things - The kid went to the school library on Tuesday and it was her worst day of school yet. The librarian would only let her check out one book and not the book she wanted. Apparently she is too young to check out a Judy Moody book from the school library even though I marked her library contract with no restrictions on what she checks out. Based on the fact she can't read any of the books yet I'm not sure why it matters what she brings home, either way I'm the reader and I'd have much rather read Judy Moody. Way to encourage kids to read public school system.
Book Things - I finished Inkheart and it was just okay, Harry Potter it was not. Now I am on to Artemis Fowl which so far hasn't resembled Harry Potter either but I'm into it. Next up The Cuckoo's Calling, I hear this is a old fashioned hard boiled mystery and I'm excited about it. If you want to talk more about books check out what I read in August and what I thought of what I read in August.
Beach Things - Again I have no beach things to report, while the intention was to spend some of my long weekend on the beach the rainy weather had other plans. IF the rain holds off tomorrow I plan on spending some of my Friday afternoon free time with the ocean. I wonder where I apply to move all these rainy days to week days instead of weekends.
After checking out this article about what the US Region you grew up in says about you I'm glad I have a midwest/North Carolina vibe. Here's an interesting take on why following your mate on social media is a bad idea. I don't know what works for other people but Tyson and I are not "social media" friends which works just fine for us. That's all I've got for link love this week, apparently the internet takes holidays too.
Happy Weekending!

LOL my husband got highly offended when i didn't accept his IG friend request.
ReplyDeleteand not sure why the school is censoring K's books - if you already did that, then they should follow your choices :(
Boo for book censoring! Hooray for Artemis Fowl! I hope you like it, but please don't read it expecting Harry Potter. As much as I like it, that's just too high of a standard to hold it to.
ReplyDeleteThe article about not being friends with your significant other on social media is interesting. I don't know if I agree wholly. I don't think Ryan and I use Facebook as an alternative to talking to each other. BUT I do know some couples who do (or I should say did, because despite all the sappy "I love you so much"s and "I'm so lucky to have you"s that they plastered in front of everyone else, they're getting divorced now). Neither Ryan or I believes in saying private or sentimental things on FB. I mean, that's basically like shouting it across the room at each other at a party. I have a theory that couples who do this care more about the way the relationship looks to other people than how it's actually going, but maybe they just don't know better. Who knows?
Can you talk to the library and tell them that you WANT her to bring Judy Moody home??? That sounds kind of crazy to me!
ReplyDeleteThat is just so annoying about Judy Moody!! I mean c'mon, it's not like it's an inappropriate book for God's sake! The world has gone mad!
ReplyDeleteHow ridiculous they are censoring her when you told them not too. Happy kid free days!! Interesting on not being social media friends. I can see why!
ReplyDeleteWow, there's even a form where you can check restrictions on library books? She's in kindergarten! Sorry they wouldn't let her check that book out. J also had his first day at the library. It's adorable that he keeps reminding me of the day to return the book and he knows where to return it. When did he become so responsible?!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember if the child's school puts restrictions on books or not. I don't think it's been a problem. The only thing I can think of is that it's in the section for older kids and they want to keep it on the shelves for them. Other than that, there's no logical reason to tell her she couldn't take home a book.
ReplyDeleteThe husband and I are social media friends but he's so inactive on social media it doesn't even matter.
I'm not down with book restrictions.
ReplyDeleteJust curious - why aren't you guys social media friends?
Book restrictions??? But why???? That is so lame. There shouldn't be anything in the elementary library that a kid that age can't check out. Chris and I are friends on social media but that is because we don't take it seriously. It is a rarity that either of us ever post on Facebook. Instagram is just pictures and Chris is hardly on Twitter. I only stay on for bloggers. I watch some people plaster the most person crap on Facebook or update their status that they are mad at their husband or something. Why would anyone want to do that?!?!
ReplyDeleteBook restrictions? Why is this a thing? On the subject of 'why is this a thing,' classroom volunteer class???
ReplyDeleteHow is book restrictions a thing?! Especially when you gave her permission and like you said... YOU will be the reader?! WTF?!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe they're censoring the books like that! WTF! Especially if you said it was okay...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely silly about the book censoring. What's the point in okay-ing something if they're just going to tell them no?! Jared is never on social media and I use mine mostly for blogging purposes- so we never communicate on there even though we are 'friends'. I heard some radio DJs discussing the article though and thought it was an interesting concept. I see spouses/families interacting on FB all the time and I ALWAYS think, "GO TALK TO EACH OTHER IN PERSON!" lol
