I thought about doing a weekend wrap up post but all I did this weekend was clean which means my spring freaking cleaning is done. All the closets and cabinets are clean, all the junk has been thrown away, and Goodwill restocked their shelves with shit I don't want or need in my house anymore.
If we're being honest here (and I try to be on my blog) I just finished moving in. Yes I've lived her for going on 3 years but I still had boxes packed with stuff that could have been put away. It wasn't about procrastination which if you know me would be your first guess, I'm a first rate procrastinator.
When we decided to move to the beach it wasn't a pre-planned move like most of the moves in my life had been. We didn't have a place to stay other than my sister's house temporarily and only Tyson had a job. We had a little bit of money in savings and a big dream, not exactly the way I would usually advise one to lead their life and not usually how I lead mine but it makes a great story.
We found our little "trailer by the sea" (name that tune?) on day one of our search. It was 2 miles from the beach, had a fenced in yard for the dog, a play house for the kid and way under budget, we paid our deposit and moved in on day two. Go us! It was much smaller than the homes we had rented in Charlotte but it would work. I put things away in boxes believing when our lease was up we would find something bigger and better.
I have searched Craigslist and all the property management sites for two years and unless we can drastically increase our budget bigger and better is at least a 20 minute drive to the beach. So this weekend I unpacked and purged, our life now fits perfectly into this little "trailer by the sea" with a little bit of room to spare. I really learned it's okay to let all that unnecessary stuff go from Steph and Stephanie they rock at purging so I took a page from their book.
So while I may tell everyone I finished my spring cleaning what I really did was move in and make my house a home.
What did you do this weekend to get ready for spring?
That's awesome! I could see that being a hard mental shift to make - going from "this is temporary" to "this is my home." But we definitely don't need as much space as we think we do. More space = more stuff and more to clean. Ryan and I will be haggling when we start looking for a house, because he's more in the "bigger is better" mindset.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you guys get on fine in your space...what's the use of paying more, so you can store more stuff that you haven't used in three years? Give me a two mile walk to the beach any day.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
The purge is key my friend! It seems like you like it there, so I'm glad you're all settled. Plus, the neighbor stories are too good to leave.
ReplyDeletehell yes i'll take a smaller house on a beach ANY DAY. unfortunately, our "beach" is a fake one. it's by a gross lake that has to be monitored by the government every week during the summer to make sure that the e.coli levels aren't high. yuck!
ReplyDeleteI have such a struggle getting rid of shit... but it does feel SO much better once you have, doesn't it?! Congrats on FINALLY settling in! lol :)

ReplyDeleteI would much rather do with less and be that close to the beach, than having more space and stuffing it with crap I don't need. You did the right thing! Happy move in day! ;)
ReplyDeleteThis makes me want to do some Spring Cleaning. I've been going through clothes regularly and donating them. I'm thinking about cleaning out kitchen cabinets this weekend. Good for you! So glad it is all done.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to feel and be at home! I've been in a temporary mindset for the last 4 years until we move into our home. I blame our walls being bare on that but really, it's my own fault for not hanging things up.
