The Pro-Cons of Working From Home

I work from home which usually makes people really jealous when I tell them. I'm not sure what they think working from home consists of but it's not always better than the office they're sitting in now. There are actually several Pro-Cons to working from home, Pro-Con is a word I just made up to describe something that can be good and bad. It's my blog I can make up words if I want to.

Pro: I don't have to get dressed every day. I can wear PJ's, shorts, my bathing suit, or my birthday suit if I wanted too.

Con: I don't have to get dressed every day. I missing going shopping for cute work clothes and putting on a cute necklace and a little make up every day. I guess I could do that at home but it feels like a big fat waste.

Pro: I work in my bedroom, I mean the bed is right there if I start feeling a little sick or I just want to sit with my legs stretched out.

Con: I work in my bedroom, it's 2 PM and lunch is over the phones are dead all I want is a nap and I CAN SEE MY FUCKING BED!

Pro: I get to stay home with my kid. When I was a 8-5 office mom I was so jealous of stay at home mom's and the time they got to spend with their kids.

Con: I get to stay at home with my kid. Lets be honest how much work is getting done if a 5 year old is in your "office" telling you about her latest "invention" or the library she's set up in her bedroom?

Pro: I don't have to commute. No morning rush hour assholes with to little time to get to work.

Con: I don't have to commute. No listening to the radio at the top of your lungs to unwind between your work life and your home life.

Pro: I get to work alone. No office politics, no annoying assholes you're required to be professional to on a daily basis, and no overheard inappropriate conversations in the break room.

Con: I get to work alone. No wasting time in you work friends office, no lunches with work friends, basically you don't get work friends at all.

There are Pro-Con's to every job, what are some of the Pro-Con's to your job?

  1. I think I would like the Pros more than the Cons, but not having work friends would be tough too. I hate my commute so I would love to get rid of it.

  2. I think it would be great to do a half WFH half work at an office situation.

  3. The clothes thing gets me. I mean, I love wearing yoga pants every day but I've legit forgotten how to dress like a normal human being. And I miss having a cute wardrobe.

And YES to the kid thing. I'd a blessing and curse to be home.

  4. I freelanced for the better part of a year and while I agree with all your pro-cons, I think the cons were stronger for me. I have terrible discipline, so I just work better in a more structured environment, even if I don't always enjoy being there. Also, pro-cons should totally be a word, because rarely is there something that's a total negative or a total positive.

  5. i dont work for the time being but when i did, the pros were:
-team lunch time. it was the funnest part of the day.
-projects. although at times they made me rage like the hulk, i did work on some pretty cool shit.

cons - working, office humans, driving to work.

  6. The kids being at home now is a reason I don't work from home. When I'm teleworking, I go to Starbucks instead but the connection is soooooo slow. Oh well. At least I have a hot latte. I really enjoy working outside the home. It's the only time I get to listen to podcasts. The traffic can suck though.
