One of my favorite Goodreads features when I first joined in 2012 was tracking the number of books I read each year. With the specific help of Goodreads and my blog I've become more varied in my reading choices, unfortunately, Goodreads hasn't paid as much attention to their stats or my stats specifically as I would like. So today I'm breaking down my 2015 number for
Goodreads says I read 115 books in 2016 but that number is a misrepresentation of actual books read. It includes my one star DNF books if I marked it DNF I didn't read it but if I don't move it to my read shelf it just kind of floats on my to read or reading shelf. Goodreads also doesn't allow for me to separate books I read to Little K, okay I read the books yes I did but I don't think they count as part of my 115 books read to date. I like to put Little K books on my shelves so Goodreads will give me suggestions of other books we may like but I don't want them counted in my yearly read total.
The REAL Numbers:
Adult Books Completed - 69
5 Star books - 7
4 Star Books - 27
3 Star Books - 22
2 Star Books - 2
Adult Books DNF - 18*
*These books also received a one start Goodreads rating
Kids Books Completed - 28
So if we're being technical I didn't read 115 books last year, I read 69. I'm great with that number and it's a little closer to my original goal of reading 50 books in 2015. I'm not setting a Goodreads goal this year but personally, I would love to read at least 52 books this year and every year.
What is your personal book goal for 2016? Do you wish Goodreads would let you dig deeper into your reading?
That is a lot of books!!! I like how they suggest other books you might like, I didn't even think of that aspect with kids books but that is pretty genius! I love that you are getting Little K in to reading too! Such an important thing :) Cheers to another year of great reading!!
ReplyDeleteI don't really look at most of the analytical stuff on good reads. I just like that it keeps my lists for me!
ReplyDeleteman, i totally crapped the bed with reading since i started working. i have 3 books waiting to be read and i've only gotten through 1/4 of one of them :(
ReplyDeleteWow 69 is a ton of books! I probably read a similar total if I think about it, probably more like 50-60 though.
ReplyDeleteNice! I don't use Good Reads but I really should. Seems much easier to track things, ways to remember authors I liked, etc! Great job on all the reading :)
ReplyDeleteI love Goodreads! I wish they would let you create a "did not finish" shelf in a separate category - it's so annoying! I normally move mine back to my TBR list after I give them a rating and then delete after a few weeks. I set my goal at 50 for this year but I'm on a roll (and also choosing really short books) so I should beat that, hopefully.
ReplyDeleteNo real reading goal here... just to read as much as I can! :D
ReplyDeleteDNF definitely needs to be its own category. It throws everything off.
ReplyDeleteI try not to think about the actual numbers I read but for me, it wound up being 99 books including the ones for work, which I try not to track since it's a different kind of reading. So Goodreads reflected one number but the actual count was different.
DNF can be its own category. Let me look into it and I'll forward the info.
DeleteOk. My Books >Bookshelves (top left) > Edit > Add a Shelf > DNF (or whatever you want to call it) > check the box that marks it Exclusive.
DeleteI meant to write a similar post, but I didn't. So, I'll just give my report to you :)
ReplyDeleteI read 92 books and 30,777 pages. I actually made a goal for less books this year because I felt like I was rushing through books (at times). Sometimes, I just want to savor a good book.
i definitely wish goodreads delved a little deeper! i'm with erin above, my goal this year is less because i want to enjoy reading again and not feel pressured (by myself) to read more. i wish goodreads included re-reads, my number would be much higher lol
ReplyDeleteDNF can be its own category. I don't remember how I did it though, let me look....

I did not do so well with reading in 2015. I read 3 books in 4 days right at the end so it kind of motivated me to read more this year. I think I completed 12 books.. not great. This year I have challenged myself to at leas 35 books. We shall see..
