The One Where She Confesses Some Big Things

Here's a confession for you on Wednesday, I've been working on writing a book but haven't really told anyone because really who isn't working on a book? All the sudden though I've got a plot outlined, I can see potential, and I'm all excited.

Why are you confessing this now you may ask yourself, clearly you're not even done writing this book or you'd be talking about that shit instead? The answer I've been thinking of participating in NaNoWriMo and I'm looking for NaNoWriMo buddies. I know you NaNoWriMo'ers are out there but I'm not sure how to find you. Also I want people to ask me how it's going and hold me accountable if it's not going, I'm a lazy ass procrastinator don't let me get away with that shit!

Here's another confession for you, I feel like a fraud as a writer. I can't say things like I've just always loved writing, it's part of who I am, or I've been writing forever and have stacks of notebooks and journals full of great material.

The truth is I have always loved to write but sometimes it's taken a back seat to life, as a rebellious hurt teenager writing was the last thing on my mind. My step dad or my sister read any journal I tried to keep, violating my privacy and my desire to write any candid thoughts on paper.

I've started a ton of "stories" with no real plan or direction. I've told people if I could do something I'd always dreamed of doing it would be to write a book. I've always added the caveat that I don't have time or I'm just not good enough or even I'm a reader not a writer, I wouldn't know how to start writing a book.

Well I've done some reading and some research and I think I know how to start. As a matter of fact I've started an outline, character sketches, scene notes, etc. Maybe I'll fall completely on my face and never finish, maybe I'll have a book no one wants to read, or maybe just maybe I'll hit the jackpot with the book of a lifetime. I'll never know if I don't try right?

Any writing tips? Any NaNoWriMo tips?

  2. Awesome :) I have been 'writing a book' off and on for years... more off than on, so I don't really bring it up a lot more to people. It's easy to let writing take a backseat which I definitely have, but I'd like to get back at it. Once I set aside the time I truly just enjoy telling the story and letting it unfold as I write it. Good luck with Nanowrimo, I've done it 2x in the past- never succeeded 100% but still fun and motivating!

  4. That's the kind of writer I am. It always takes a backseat to everything else. I have notebooks full of three line writings.

    Good luck!

  5. Good for you! I wish I had a story in me to get out because of all the bucket list aspirations I have ever seen, writing a book seems like something I might actually enjoy... but first, one must be inspired. Good luck! My friend Bre (www.brewrites.com) has done the NaNo thing before so if she does it again, I'll be sure to let you know!

  7. I am a mess of a writer but I figure one day I'll get it together.

As you know, I'm doing NaNo this year so I'm happy to be your buddy! I'm actually planning on just finishing the book I started over the summer so I won't be an official "winner" but if I can get the draft finished and start the editing, I'm a winner to me!

  8. I'm not writing a book. Please don't hate me. Ha. I have never considered it. But, I am the type of person who gets an idea and says "that would make a great book!" Good luck on this, and I hope it gives you so much more fulfillment than you can even imagine!
