You Do What All Day?

I usually start posts with pictures but no one and I mean no one wants to see a picture of anything I am doing before 7:10 AM. I will tell you what I'm doing though because it's not a day in the life if you don't start at the beginning.

6:30 - 6:55 AM - Phone alarm clock goes off, I check for early morning mom friend snapchats about how horrible stupid o'clock is, I let the dog out, and head to the kitchen to get K's breakfast ready. Now this might sound hard but since my kid eats five things it's actually pretty easy. I pour the required cup of orange juice and heat up 6 silver dollar size pancakes made by Kellogg's, no syrup no butter. (Yes I have tried to give her made on the stove pancakes but my girl is all about her food being "the same". We're working on this problem).  While K is eating her pancakes and drinking her OJ I re-braid her hair. After I am done braiding and she is done eating she goes to the bathroom and brushes her teeth while I get dressed. I then help her get her shirt on without messing up her braids and she finishes getting ready for school by herself while I watch the weather on the local news.

6:55 - 7:05 AM - Driving to school and dropping K off. School doesn't start until 7:35 but she likes to be the first one there so she has time to talk to her friends.

I always take pictures on my morning beach visits

7:10 - 7:45 AM - Most mornings I stop for a beach visit sometimes long sometimes short. Sometimes dog walking happens her or there are mornings where I end up needing something from the store and have to bypass the beach for Walmart, that trade off usually pisses me off.

7:45- 8:00ish AM - Turning on the computer and checking email, taking care of any work that needs to be addressed first thing. This can can take 5 to 30 minutes depending on the day and the work load.

8:00ish - 9:00 AM - I'm watching the today show in the living room with Tyson while listening for my phone to ring and checking my email on commercial breaks. Since we work very different shifts this how we get couple time (and yes we are 70 years old).

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM - Jerry Springer and naps start in the living room at 9:00 so I return to my desk in the bedroom. I do any non-pressing work before visiting a few of my favorite websites like this one and this one. I'm still working but job is mostly reactive based on a call or an email, so if the call or email isn't coming in I'm in wait mode. While in wait mode I either read blogs and answer personal email or I read a book depending on my mood.

My real not perfect desk in the morning, I don't even have a pretty cup to display.

12:00 - 12:45 PM - A shortened version of lunch so nobody makes a big deal about the 20 - 30 minutes it takes to pick up my daughter later. If I don't need anything for lunch, from the store, or from the library I usually watch the noon news with Tyson (I already said we were 70) and then an episode of House Hunters on HGTV while I eat my lunch. Thee are times when dog walking happens here, just depends on how trapped I feel in the house any given day.

12:45 - 1:00 PM - Hey I'm available for calls and email again, if nothing is pressing I finish House Hunters while listening for my phone and checking emails during commercial breaks.

1:00 - 2:37ish PM - I'm waiting working and reading blogs, reading books, or doing some personal writing at my desk in my bedroom.

2:37ish - 3:00ish PM - I'm off to school, you may laugh at the 2:37ish but I have this down to a science so that I can spend the least amount of time away from work. School ends at 2:35, it takes me approximately 7 - 8 minutes to get to the school. So by the time I get there the car rider line is almost empty, yes I'm sometimes the last car (ain't no one got time for sitting in car rider lines). Another 7 - 8 minutes home and I"m back at work. The latest I've ever made it back so far is 3:04 (move bitch get out the way). Excuse my random bouts of rap singing.

My desk after school pick up.

3:00 ish - 5:00 PM - Hey more waiting work while I review little K's school work/parent book and a little afternoon surfing or reading all at my desk in my bedroom.

5:00 - 8:30 PM - Sometimes karate but most nights just dinner making, news watching (seriously I'm 70), relaxing, and reading to the kid. I usually turn the TV off when Lester Holt is done talking, we DVR a lot of our shows so we can watch them together on weekends.

8:30 - 9:30ish PM - I'm reading and enjoying the silence, Tyson usually doesn't get home until after 10 PM so I get a little me time before I go to sleep.

9:30ish PM - I go to bed (because 70) and get ready to do it all again the next day.

What do you do all day?

  1. I wake up early for my morning routine (coffee, read my feeds), get kayla ready for school, walk her to school, get ready for my workout, come home and make lunch then it could be anything in the afternoon - reading/napping, shopping/errands, blogging #workfuckofftimeFTW

  2. I have no set schedule. I'm trying! But discipline is lacking, so other than being physically at work from 7ish to 4ish, everything else is a toss-up. All the food the same is an interesting kid quirk I've never heard of! I know my sisters and I had to have our food not touching, so we had these special segmented plates, but food consistency was not something we cared about.

  3. This is awesome! My morning routine takes legit 30 minutes. bathe, teeth, 5 minute make-up - out the door. Im going to be in for a rude awakening when I have kiddos.

  5. I like how you have a routine down, I am the same way...having certain times of my day dedicated to certain things!

  6. I am up butt early at 4:45 to walk the dog but don't leave until 7, so I mostly read to wake myself up. I get home around 5ish to walk the dog and then workout or blog stuff. So exciting. I am jealous you get down time during work to read or blog.

  7. Definitely envious of your time at home. My day starts at 6/6:30 with Oreo pawing at me to wake up and serve him his breakfast. I then dick around for the next hour and 45 minutes until I need to walk out the door, which means I leave 10 minutes later than I should daily. I need to get it together!

  8. I always try to be asleep by 9:30...which means usually getting in bed no later than 8:30pm because it takes me forever to fall asleep. I'm old, too. But, I do get up at 5:20am every day.

  9. I liked this look into your life- always wondered how people make working from home actually work for them and their families/etc. Have you talked much about what you specifically do? If not- I totally understand but I'm curious!

  10. Jerry Springer and naps... I feel like I should be friends with Tyson instead of you. ;P

  12. Is it weird I actually really enjoy reading what people do during their days? I might have to write this for myself, haha. And girl, I go to bed early because why not? #important

  13. Her school starts at 7:35?! That's freaking early! And also the time our middle schools start so in a couple of years, I'll be right there with you.

Working from home definitely allows for more freedom in my schedule, which is nice. I don't get up extra early, though. I tried but it didn't take.

  15. I like this post. I love seeing what people do all day. I went and read lots of your posts last night but I was on the ipad so commenting was too hard. I love your couple time, though I'm a GMA fan myself :)

  17. Whew, you are busy. I also wake up at 630. It stinks. But I stay up until 11. Maybe I should go to bed earlier!

  19. I adored working from home. My new work from home gig is with my soon to be born grandchild! Luckiest girl in the world and eternal thanks to my husband who makes this all possible. I see and appreciate all of your beach pictures on Instagram. They take me to the beach! I think your day sounds lovely. Especially since I worked full time out of the home for 30 plus years! Continued Goddess speed! Love, Steph's Momma
