Sea La Vie - 8/21

Beach Things - Last Sunday my mom suggested Little K and I join her at the end of her island because the tide pools down there after the channel dredging are fabulous. So off we went and she wasn't wrong. You could float on a pool raft in these tide pools and the shells I found were amazing, we're hoping for a return visit this Sunday! Monday night we happened upon the NMB Sea Turtle Patrol doing a nest inventory. We watched and learned, Little K even came away with a free Sea Turtle Patrol magnet so she knows who to contact if we see a sea turtle nesting or hatching in the future.

Kid Things - I took the kid to get her first hair cut Friday night, I was nervous and rightfully so. I know the hair dresser had no idea what to do with Little K's hair but at least she didn't mess it up. No I do not use a fine tooth comb and a paddle brush on those curls, where did you get your cosmetology degree anyway? Open house was interesting, I'd never be friends with Little K's teacher I'm sure but she seems nice enough. School day one there were no tears and a little girl who was so excited she was mad we had to wait for the gate to open and then jumped out of the car without a look back. I feel like I did everything I could to get her ready and she handled the whole thing like a pro. When she got home she told me she was looking forward to tomorrow. I mark that as a win in the mom book.

Special Things - Last Saturday Little K and I went with some friends to see the El Galeon in Wilmington, NC. The wait was a little long, the weather sun a little hot, and the floating dock made me glad I loaded up on Dramamine but it was worth it. The ship is a replica 16th century Spanish galleon ship with 5 decks open for touring, Little K had a blast and we got in some more fun before school started.

Kelli Things - Ummmm well there haven't been any Kelli thinks, sole focus has been on day one of school. Believe me when I tell you that changes next week with hours on end of kid free quiet time. First up a stab at book reading!

Harry Potter fan or not you should definitely be a J.K. Rowling fan, a huge supporter of equal rights for all she regularly goes after internet trolls on Twitter. Confession on Friday, when I've dreamed of getting older this is the kind of life I've imagined. I love US maps with "state favorites", this week find out your state's favorite emoji. I've clearly chosen the right state. Book nerd stuff ahead in this article about 8 Things You Looked Forward to Growing Up As A Book Nerd, all so so true.

Happy Weekending!

  2. J.K. Rowling is awesome! I saw something about her defending Serena Williams when someone called her "masculine" but I didn't know she was like a troller of the trolls. And so funny! I must follow her immediately. I'm glad the first day of school went well!!! Here's hoping you get around to more "Kelli things" next week.

  7. That boat looks so fun! And yay for Little K! I noticed in the pic on fb that with you, she smiles wide with teeth like you do, and in the pic with her dad, it's a more closed mouth smile like his. So funny and I wonder if she realizes it?

  10. Cool boat! Tide pool sounds cool. Glad K had a good first visit. I hope our visit with the teacher goes well. It's next Friday. Finally, why is MD's most popular emoticon a pair of jeans?!?! I'm stumped. Seriously, other than the smiley face, I don't use other ones. But I guess a map of most popular smiley faces wouldn't be that interesting.
