Beach Things - Little K and I did some impromptu sunset watching Friday night, when you see beauty out your window you rush outside to greet it. We started on the beach where the clouds were cotton candy pink and then moved around to the inlet to watch the finale over the marsh. I spent Saturday night standing in the middle of that same inlet at low tide watching the sunset alone. Sunday morning I took myself to the beach and laid with my face to the sand not worrying about where my kid was because I was alone.
Kelli Things - After lots of alone time on Saturday night and Sunday morning I spent the rest of Sunday reading and then having a Big Brother binge watching session with Tyson while pigging out on a huge plate of nachos. This binge watching and nacho eating lasted into Monday afternoon, when there is not kid in the house you can work from the living room chair while watching TV.
Book Things - I've hit a book wall, I've returned two books to the library unread because I just didn't feel like reading them and I'm not even half way through the book I started last weekend. I even cancelled some of my hold books because I knew I would do the same. My mood has switched from reading to writing, I'm constantly writing these days and sometimes I feel like writing and reading are hard to do together. I can't concentrate on someone else's ideas when i am so full of my own.
Kid Things - School next week, hurray!
I wish more employers understood why working 9 to 5 doesn't make a lot of sense, I've known this for years but office politics got in the way of productivity. No more! Here is a list of mom's we're all sure to meet at school, I think I'll be a 4/5 combination. I found some unique new suggestions in this post about 22 Habits That Will Make Your Life a Little More Peaceful Each Day. I especially like the idea of a commonplace book.
Have a great weekend!

Ive been writing more than reading these days too and thats fine. They compliment each other so dont beat yourself up over that. That photo is stunning!
ReplyDeletei think 9-5 work hours are old school; many companies (in toronto) are encouraging employees to work during the hours they are most productive. when i was working, my actual office hours were 630/645am - 3pm and by 3, i'm on my way home. that said, that didn't mean i clock out at 3pm; if shit needed to get done, i'd log in and handle my bidness but at least it felt good to know that my work respects the times i like to work instead of forcing me to their schedule. when employees have this kind of respect and authority over themselves, they're more willing to put in extra effort to make sure stuff gets done.
ReplyDeleteI'm in a book funk too but I think I found something to make it go away (I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson... apparently my taste is "literary novels" and that's what this is). I get the writing, thing, though. Hopefully some things you've got in your head become blog posts!
ReplyDeleteReading and writing are hard for me to do together too. I typically let writing fall by the wayside.
ReplyDeleteI tried the new Judy Blume book and put it down.
hmm i need to check out the 22 habits link, i could totally use the help with that!
ReplyDeletei wish i didn't have to work 9-5 lol.
I also get into reading slumps where I just don't feel like reading. But now, I'm rested and revved up :). What are you writing?
ReplyDeleteThat picture has me dreaming of the ocean so hard right now! I have been in book slumps before but at least you are writing! mine were never productive.
ReplyDeleteThose nachos sound really good. Bummer on the reading but at least the writing is flowing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture! Makes me want to go to the beach! I'm the same - I can't be reading and writing at the same time. One or the other! :)
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with shifting from reading to writing! :)
ReplyDeleteI just read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up so I am all about #1 and 2 on your 22 Habits list. This weekend I'm sorting through everything I own. It's on!
ReplyDeletethat's how I feel about sunsets! If I look outside and see one, I must rush out to go see it myself!
ReplyDeleteI love that we shared the same link again!
ReplyDeleteI get into reading slumps, too. Eventually you'll find the right book to break out of it!
