Book Review: The Library At Mount Char

The Library At Mount Char Book Review

*I received this book free from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review.

Most of the time I feel like the 2-star rating is unnecessary, either a book is 1-star and I DNF it or it's a 3-star and I enjoyed it enough to keep going. As a matter of fact in 2015, I only rated three books on Goodreads with 2 stars.

The Library At Mount Char was the first book in 2016 to earn a 2-star rating from me. The first 100 or so pages of this book made very little sense, I kept reading back over what I'd read to make sure I hadn't missed part of the story. I almost stopped reading but since I received this book free for an honest review I pushed on. About the middle of the book, I started to see where the story was going and I was actually enjoying myself and wondering where this weird little book was going to take me.

Unfortunately, the true ending of the story came about 100 pages too early for me and the last 100 pages turned out to be the back story I thought I had missed at the beginning of the book. By the time I had gotten this far I was over the complex way the story read and didn't care about the back story anymore. I skimmed the last 100 pages but didn't fully read them, which is why this book earned only a 2-star review from me.

How many times do you use the 2-star rating for books?

  1. I don't use the 2 star rating that often but then again, I hate the star rating system the way Goodreads has it set up so it's usually very arbitrary for me anyway.

This book is on my TBR, mostly as a result of one of the hosts of All the Books! raving about it so much. It's pretty far down on the list right now and don't plan to move it up any time soon.

  2. ugh this book sounds lame. that sucks. i just looked back on my goodreads, and i don't rate a DNF anything, i just say 'abandoned' or whatever, though i really suck at giving up on books. there are 5 books that i've rated 1 star since i've had goodreads and i hated them, but i read the whole thing (why did i keep reading?). i have a few more 2 stars - 27 of them, and they were all books i strongly disliked. 3 stars are my 'eh' or 'i liked it, but the flaws annoyed me' haha.

  3. Hmmm I started to rate a book 2.5 stars the other day for my link up next week. I am trying to decide if I was unfair because I didn't hate it. But there were some books I really did like that I rated 3 stars that were just meh though and nothing amazing. Those pass the time just fine books. Now I am going to have to go back and rerate it I think. lol

  4. I don't quit books often. Although, I'm getting better at this, realizing that there are so many books and so little time. I think because I've trudged along in some books that I should've done myself a favor and quit, that I've used the 2 star rating.

  5. Hmm I can't remember how often I rate a book 2 stars, but I definitely know I've rated a bunch 3 stars.
